What are unofficial or bootleg Remixes and why can't I distribute them?

Updated yesterday

A remix is a new mix of an already released song. It consists of producing a new song using parts of the original song (Master Recording and Composition) with other elements produced by the producer making the remix.

Required licenses

To legally distribute a remix you need to have three licenses:

1. Master's License

In order to include portions of the original Master Recording in a new Master Recording, a license for use is required.

The owner of the Master Recording is the only one who may grant this license directly. The owner is the record label or the artist, if the artist owns the master.

2. Derivative Works License

A remix is a Derivative Work, so you need a license from the composers.

This license must be obtained from the original composers or their respective publishers.

3. Trademark use license

If a song features guest artists, we need an image usage license from each artist. This is also required if the song is in the public domain or if it's a remix.

If you do not have these licenses, your remix is a bootleg or unofficial remix and Random Sounds will not distribute it.
