Random Sounds gives you the option to license your sound recordings to AI platforms that meet copyright protection and licensing payment requirements. We only work with platforms that have signed formal agreements with the music industry.
Just like with every other digital platform, you have full control:
Distribute your entire catalog to all AI platforms.
Distribute only certain songs, or choose only certain AI platforms.
Distribute nothing to any AI platform.
You can also change your mind at any time, with no penalties and no permanent commitments. Your settings update within 24 hours.
How the royalties work
Sound recording owners have two new ways to monetize their catalog through AI models:
Training license. A one-time payment for licensing your catalog so the platform can train its model with your music. Each platform pays a fee per sound recording you license.
Usage license. Periodic payments. Every time a user generates content on the platform using your music as a reference, royalties are generated and reported back to you on a recurring basis.
These revenue streams are additional. They do not replace your streaming, micro-sync, download, or any other existing royalties. Your catalog starts generating value in a completely new ecosystem without affecting what you already earn on traditional platforms.
Important: AI-generated songs cannot be licensed to train AI models. At Random Sounds, we do not allow the distribution of AI-generated music.
What protections are in place
Every company and negotiation is different, but here are the key safeguards that apply with platforms like Udio, which has already signed agreements with most major music companies:
Walled Garden. All music generated within the platform stays within the platform. It cannot be downloaded or redistributed to Spotify, YouTube, social media, or any other service.
Digital fingerprinting. Every generated track carries an invisible digital fingerprint so distributors can identify it and block any unauthorized distribution attempt.
Previous model discontinued. The model trained without licenses will no longer be available.
Identity protection. Unless you give explicit consent, no user can ask the platform to generate something that sounds like you or uses your name. Control over your artistic identity remains 100% yours.
Types of content users can generate with your music:
Covers: generate covers of licensed songs using voices or sounds from licensed artists in different styles.
Reimagine: use parts of a licensed song but in a different style.
Create: use the voice or characteristic sound of a licensed artist with new lyrics and styles to create a new song.
Remix: modify licensed recordings to combine up to 3 song references and produce a remix in a new style.
Frequently asked questions
Am I required to participate? No. This is completely voluntary. If you do not want to license your music to AI platforms, you do not have to do anything, or you can explicitly choose not to participate. Your catalog will continue to be distributed normally on traditional platforms.
Can I choose which songs to license and to which platforms? Yes. You can distribute your entire catalog to all AI platforms, choose only certain songs or certain platforms, or distribute nothing at all. The control is yours.
Can I change my mind later? Yes. You can modify your settings at any time. Changes take effect within 24 hours, with no penalties and no permanent commitments.
Do these royalties replace what I already earn on Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms? No. These are additional revenue streams. Your catalog continues to generate royalties on traditional platforms exactly as before.
What if a Udio user generates something with my music and uploads it to Spotify? They cannot. All music generated within the platform stays within the platform (walled garden). Every result also carries a digital fingerprint that allows identification and blocking of any unauthorized distribution attempt.
Can someone use my name or make something sound like me without my permission? No. Unless you give explicit consent, no user can ask the platform to generate something that sounds like you or uses your name.
What types of revenue does this generate? Two types: a one-time payment for licensing your catalog to train the model (training license), and periodic payments every time a user generates content using your music as a reference (usage license).
Does Random Sounds allow distribution of AI-generated music? No. At Random Sounds, we do not allow the distribution of AI-generated music. Only original sound recordings from our artists and labels can be licensed.
How will I receive the invitation to decide? You will receive an email from Random Sounds where you can give your consent, or not, to distribute your music to these platforms.
Which AI platforms does Random Sounds work with? Only platforms that have signed formal agreements with the music industry and meet copyright protection and licensing payment requirements. As new platforms join, we will keep you informed.
