This article explains how to create and manage discount coupons in Stripe, so you can apply them to subscriptions or one-time payments correctly.

Prerequisites:

Before getting started, make sure that:

  • You have administrator access to your Stripe account.

  • Your Stripe account is active and verified.

Step 1: Create the Coupon in Stripe

  1. Go to the Stripe coupon creation page:

  2. Fill in the coupon details as needed.

  3. Once created, go to the coupon list and select the newly created coupon (it will usually appear first).

  4. Copy the Stripe coupon ID.

Step 2: Create the Coupon in Backstage

  1. Go to Backstage and navigate to the section to create a new coupon:

    /backstage/coupons/create

  2. Fill in the coupon details.

It is important that the details match exactly with the coupon created in Stripe.

  3. In the Stripe coupon ID field, paste the ID you copied from Stripe.

  4. Save the changes to complete the coupon creation.

Important:

  • The coupon details in Backstage must exactly match those configured in Stripe (discount type, duration, and amount).

  • Once created, the coupon cannot be edited in Stripe. If changes are needed, a new coupon must be created.

  • If the coupon ID is incorrect or does not match, the discount will not apply correctly to the subscription.
